Leaders from western Uganda affiliated with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have disapproved of what they have labelled ‘sham’ elections organised by the party’s Secretary-General, Nandala Mafabi.
The leaders, including Hon. Dr. Nicholas Kamara the Kabale municipality member of Parliament,Hon. Mwijukye Francis member of Parliament for Buhweju,Hon. Nyakato Asinansi woman member of Parliament for Hoima and Hon. Mugume Roland Kaginda who is also the FDC vice president western region, all convened at Fairway Hotel in Nakaseero, Kampala with other party NEC leaders where they issued a joint statement on the alleged organised elections by the party SG Nandala. They urged Boniface Toterebuka, the FDC EC Boss to cancel the elections conducted in the affected areas.
Furthermore, they demand that the electoral commission organising the elections must be disbanded until the party’s National Executive Committee hold a retreat to establish a way forward and conduct fresh elections.
Hon. Mwijukye called upon all FDC members in all districts to remain patient and wait for the National Executive Committee to devise a clear roadmap. He accused the party president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, Secretary General, Hon. Mandala Mafabi of hiding in elections to sell the party to President Museveni and the ruling NRM.
The two leaders have been accused of plotting to sell the party, but the western FDC NEC members avow that President Museveni will not buy the party but will attempt to purchase Oboi, Mafabi, and their group instead.
The Hoima district Woman Member of Parliament, Nyakato rebuked claims by the FDC faction at Najjanankumbi headed by SG Nandala that the party conducted elections in various parts of the country including Hoima district in Bunyoro region.
According to her, the secretariat handpicked unknown persons in the area and guised them as newly elected structural leaders. She asked FDC supporters in Bunyoro to stay away from any electoral activities by Nandala and his cohorts until a clear program is issued by the party NEC.
