Five candidates including Aguuda Moses (NUP), Patrick Musinguzi (FDC), Mugisha Othman (NRM), Mugisha Savana and Mugume Lenox, both independent are contesting for this position.
Hoima district LCV seat fell vacant after the death of the former Chairman, Kirungi Kadiri who died in an accident.
Paul Bukenya, the electoral commission spokesperson says the commission has already distributed polling materials at all the polling stations and voting is ongoing despite disruptions by the early morning downpour.
Police and the military have been heavily deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent any possible violences from several political groups. NUP leaders observing the electoral process in Hoima accuse security of arresting their polling agents and other party supporters since the previous night.
The arrested include among others Agaba Julius, Asuman Mulinda from Bweyogerere and Mayor Mutebi. Electoral violence was earlier this morning reported at Kigorobya Muslim and Kigorobya Mosque polling stations.
When contacted for a comment regarding the arrest of NUP supporters, the Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza did not give any comment.
