Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) President, Ismail Kiirya has been appointed Democratic Party (DP) Spokesperson.
The DP president also minister of justice and constitutional affairs, Hon Nobert Mao said on Tuesday that Kiirya was appointed in acting capacity.
“I want to formally state that I assigned the UYD President the role of Publicity Secretary in the interim,” said chairman Mao.
The development comes after the existing Spokesperson, Okelor Opio Lo Amanu who is abroad and his deputy have not been available to carry on their duties.
While making the announcement, Chairman Mao commended Kiirya for effectively praying the role of party communication.
He also revealed the DP arrangements to celebrate Kiirya’s election as the president of the Young Democrats Union of Africa (YDUA)
“On Saturday, we shall have Thanksgiving celebrations in Jinja to celebrate the election of UYD President as the president of all the youths of Africa that belong to Centre-Right political parties,” he said.
The thanksgiving celebration was expected to take place on September 2 but it was postponed to September 30 because the DP president, Chairman Mao was outside the country. The celebrations will kick off at 10am at Jinja Main Street.
