In a recent interview with Elisam Tumwesigye a senior educationist and headteacher at Kashekuro Parents School, concerns about the current state of education reforms in Uganda were raised.
The headteacher, who also brings a wealth of experience from being a former mathematics teacher at Aghakan Schools in Kampala, highlighted a number of challenges brought about by the reforms that were implemented without proper consultation with technical experts.
One of the key issues identified was the impact on teaching professionals, with reports of teachers abandoning the profession or opting for early retirement. This, in turn, has led to a decline in the quality of education being imparted due to discrepancies in salary structures among educators.
Tumwesigye emphasized the need for the government to reassess and revise these reforms, stressing the importance of seeking guidance from experts within the education sector to ensure positive growth and development. As the old saying goes, “Education is the only weapon we can use to transform the world,” making it crucial to prioritize and invest in the education system to shape a brighter future for the country.
Tumwesigye said Kashekuro Parents School, a respected private primary institution located in Kashekuro village, Kyeibanga subcounty in Sheema district, that has played a significant role in nurturing generations of students who have gone on to make notable contributions to various fields in the country.
