The magistrate court in Kapchorwa on Tuesday remanded Shamim Chebet, Parish Chief of Kongowo Parish in Kapchorwa District on alleged corruption charges related to PDM funds.
Chebet faces charges of obtaining money by false pretense and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The suspect together with her accomplices including the LC II of Kongowo and the Kongowo PDM SACCO Chairperson and others still at large, allegedly demanded and collected millions of shillings from hundreds of beneficiaries of Kongowo PDM SACCO between August 2023 and January 2024
According to prosecution, the suspects were extorting from the unsuspecting SACCO members funds as a condition for the beneficiaries to access PDM funds.
Chebet was arrested through the collaborative efforts of the Anti-Graft Agency, the Criminal Investigations Directorate, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
She was on Tuesday arraigned before the Kapchorwa magistrate court which remanded her in custody until August 22, 2024, pending further investigation and trial.
