A deadly accident claimed two lives and left eight others injured early Thursday morning.
The accident happened at Lubaga Road, opposite Luqman Petrol Station at 6:30 am.
Eyewitnesses say the accident occured when a speeding vehicle, a Toyota Hiace, registration number UAU 194T which was traveling from Sanyu Babies Home on Butikiro Road, lost control while descending a slope, and failed to brake and rammed into a nearby building.
The PRO directorate of traffic and road safety, SP Micheal Kananura said two people died in the accident, and eight others sustained injuries.
“Two people including the driver of the vehicle died on the spot, eight people, all passengers in the Hiace, sustained varying degrees of injuries,” said SP Kananura.
The injured victims were swiftly transported to Mengo Hospital and Mulago Referral Hospital for urgent medical care, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have since towed the vehicle to Old Kampala Police Station for inspection, as investigations into the matter continues. Kananura urged drivers to respect traffic guidelines while on the road.
“We urge all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly in urban areas, and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to prevent such tragedies,” he said.
