An 18-year-old Senior Two student, identified as Lian Komugisha Kawalya, was arrested in Nansana, Kampala, after allegedly disguising himself as a woman to receive gifts from unsuspecting men.
Kawalya was apprehended on Monday, December 30, in Kazo Central Zone 1, Nansana Municipality, following a complaint from a man who wished anonymity. The man reported Kawalya to local authorities after discovering that the “woman” he had been interacting with was, in fact, a man.
During interrogations, Kawalya admitted to altering his appearance and mimicking a woman’s voice to persuade men to engage with him romantically. He also revealed that he would avoid physical intimacy during meetups, claiming reasons such as menstruation.
Nathan Bogere, the Local Council 1 Chairperson of Kazo Central Zone 1, recounted the incident.
“The suspect was given a Rolex and a small bottle of soda before going to the man’s home,” said Bogere.
Upon arrival, he added, “the man became suspicious after noticing Kawalya’s feet, which appeared masculine. When asked for s3x, Kawalya claimed to be in her menstrual period,” Bogere explained.
This raised further suspicion, leading the man to discover the truth and reported the matter to local authorities.
Kawalya confessed to having received various gifts, including food, drinks, and money, from men he had deceived, particularly Boda Boda riders, by pretending to be in a relationship with them.
Incidents of individuals disguising their gender to exploit others for financial or material gain are reportedly on the rise in Kampala, with such cases involving both men and women using manipulative and deceitful tactics.
