Residents of Ssekamalya village, Kiwaguzi parish, Mulagi subcounty in Kyankwanzi district are in shock after one their own was arrested for allegedly killing his maternal uncle and consuming parts of his body.
Jamil Kakande, 27,was arrested on Friday, following police investigations that linked him to the gruesome murder.
The victim, identified as Paul Ssebutwa had been reported missing on January 18, 2025. A community – wide search for Ssebutwa’s whereabouts ended tragically when his body was discovered in a bush near a community water source.
Police were promptly alerted who launched an investigations leading to Kakande’s arrest.
Authorities allege that the suspect did not only kill his uncle but also consumed some body parts and buried the bones near the victim’s home in the same village.
ASP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson confirmed Kakande’s arrest , stating that he would undergo a mental health examination to determine his mental state.
“Investigations indicate that Katende Jamil killed and consumed parts of the victim’s body, disposing some of the other parts in the bush. Our medical team will conduct a mental assessment to determine his stability,” Kawala said.
