A 47-year-old man in Buhweju District has been found dead in a suspected murder, just a day after leaving home to meet an unidentified individual who claimed to have scrap materials for sale.
The deceased, identified as Johnson Kanzira, a resident of Kikondere Village, Kibimba Ward in Nsiika Town Council, dealing in scrap business was reportedly killed by unknown assailants who later dumped his body in an eucalyptus forest in neighboring Kayaga Village.
Lillian Kanzira, 32, and wife of the deceased, said that on Thursday afternoon, her husband had lunch with his family when a phone call from an unidentified caller claiming to have scrap materials for sale called to meet the deceased.
Lillian said the deceased left home at around 3 p.m. to meet the unknown customer, unfortunately, he did not return home that evening and his phones were off.
Kanzira’s lifeless body was discovered the following day in the nearby forest.
Greater Bushenyi Region Police spokesperson Martial Tumusiime confirmed the incident, revealing that the body had deep cuts on the chest and neck, indicating foul play.
Tumusiime further stated that the body was taken to Nsiika Health Centre III for a postmortem.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to identify the assailants and bring them to justice. Martial urges residents to remain vigilant as police intensify efforts to solve the case.
