Police in Kampala has arrested a mother and her daughter for staging the kidnapping of a 7-year-old girl and demanding a ransom of five million shillings from the child’s father.
The duo was arrested following a security tip off about the alleged kidnap on Sunday January 26th, 2025. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the suspect, posing as the captor, called the victim’s father demanding the ransom of Shs5 million, but became suspicious and reported the matter to police.
Onyango identified the suspects as Teo Nagadya and her20-year-old daughter, Winnie Namukyaya.
The duo reportedly used artificial intelligence to disguise their voices as a man making the ransom demands.
They were tracked and arrested in Kasenge Nakawuka, near the victim’s home. During the investigation, the suspect allowed the child to speak with her father. The child, crying for help, claimed her captors had threatened to kill her.
The police recovered a Tecno phone and sim card used in the crime. He added that they are searching for the person who sold the registered sim card used in the plot.
Both suspects were arrested, and will face legal action, when investigations are completed.
