The contest for the Ruhinda South County parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections has gained new momentum following the official announcement by the Managing Director of Ambrosoli Consult to run for office. His entry into the race adds to the growing list of aspirants challenging the incumbent, Capt. (Rtd.) Donozio Kahonda, amid rising concerns over poor infrastructure and inadequate public services in the constituency.
Residents of Ruhinda South have long decried deteriorating roads, bridges, and the lack of essential facilities such as quality secondary schools and health centers.
The Nile Post recently reported that communities in areas like Rurehe, Kabira Town Council, and Mayanga have blamed ineffective representation in the 11th Parliament for their suffering. Many argue that the current area MP has been largely silent on these pressing issues, leading to growing discontent ahead of the 2026 elections.
This has prompted people of goodwill like Ambrose Byamugisha to declare his candidacy for the MP seat, with ambitious plans to take personal initiatives to improve infrastructure, social service delivery to enhance equal representation for the people of Ruhinda South, Mitooma district.
Capt. (Rtd.) Donozio Kahonda, the current MP serving his second term, has faced criticism for what some constituents describe as a lack of engagement. He previously claimed prolonged illnesses as a cause of his inactive participation in parliament following pressure from constituency regarding his poor permeance in parliament after he was ranked among the silent MPs in the August house. In a recent interview with the NBS Television, Kahonda defended his record, pointing to ongoing efforts to secure funding for infrastructure projects while acknowledging the limitations of available resources. However, this was described by civilian experts as lame excuses calling for servant leadership in Mitooma.
The announcement by the Ambrosoli Consult Managing Director adds a new dimension to the race, bringing in a candidate with a professional background in business and education consultancy and management, and research.
While specific details of his campaign agenda remain undisclosed, Byamugisha’s entry into the competition signals increased competition for the Ruhinda South seat, as voters seek a representative who can effectively advocate for infrastructure development and improved service delivery.
Others who have so far expressed interest in the Ruhinda South County MP seat are Herbert Banyanga, Arthur Kazoora, Brenda Atuhaire and Rtd. Capt. Ben Kamukama.
With the 2026 elections approaching, the political landscape in Ruhinda South is shifting, and the electorate is watching closely as new contenders step forward with promises of change.
