KAMPALA
The Uganda Police Force through it’s spokesperson Musoke Kituuma has assured residents of Kawempe North of a secure and orderly by-election slated for March 13, 2025 to fill the void left behind by former MP Hon. Ssegirinya Mohammad who passed away Early this year.
Additionally,the police has urged all candidates and their supporters to maintain discipline and work in close coordination with law enforcement.”
Candidates are encouraged to work closely with the police. We have designated officers at the rank of superintendent (SP) at all the nine (09) parishes in Kawempe North to coordinate security.”the statement read.
The police further called on candidates to take responsibility for their supporters and avoid acts that could disrupt peace.” Candidates are urged to maintain control over their supporters and collaborate with the police”.Lusoke said.
The Kawempe North by-election is expected to be highly contested, drawing attention from political parties like the NUP whose candidate Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola will be against the NRM Candidate Faridah Nambi Kigongo,Sadat Mukiibi of FDC,Henry Kasacca of DP,Ismail Musiitwa of people’s progressive party (PPP) and independents like the comical Moses Nsereko,Mutazindwa Muhamood(sweet cake),Hanifa Karadi,Luswa luwemba Muhammed the former personal assistant to the later MP Muhammed Segirinya and Henry Stanley Maitum (son of Milton Obote).
As we wait for the voting day, it should be recalled that in the 2021 general election, Ssegirinya of NUP won the seat with 41,197 votes, defeating Sulaiman Serwadda Kidandala (Independent), who received 7,512 votes, followed by NRM’s Tom Johnfisher Kasenge with 6,946 votes, and Abdulatif Sebaggala Sengendo (Independent) with 3,919 votes, among others.
