BUSHENYI
Authorities in Bushenyi are investigating a tragic case of murder by assault that occurred in Kathmandu Village, Rweishe Parish, Ibaare Subcounty, on the night of March 18. The incident left one man dead and another injured, sparking efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The deceased, Patrick Nuwagaba, aged 56, had spent the evening at Annex Bar in Bwoma Center, where he reportedly consumed alcohol and ate pork on credit with four friends before departing at around 5 PM.
Later that night, at approximately 10 PM, Mugizi Acleo, a 45-year-old carpenter, was attacked by unknown assailants near Landview Resort while riding his motorcycle home. Struck with a stick, Mugizi fell off his bike and noticed a man lying unconscious in a trench nearby. A passing boda boda rider intervened, forcing the attackers to flee.
Both Mugizi and the unconscious man, later identified as Patrick Nuwagaba, were rushed to St. Laura Health Centre before being transferred to Kampala International Teaching Hospital. Tragically, Nuwagaba succumbed to his injuries the following night, with medical reports citing a skull fracture and internal brain bleeding as the cause of death. Mugizi sustained injuries to his hand and face.
The Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson SSP Martial Tumusiime, confirmed to our reporter that they opened an investigation under case file CRB 258/2025. “Officers have examined the crime scene, retrieved the deceased’s phone from the bar owner, and taken witness statements,” SSP Tumusiime confirmed.
He urged members of the public to provide any information that could assist in bringing the culprits to justice that is ongoing.
