The suspect, Bernard Kabagambe and other members of his staff still at large reportedly subjected Nagasha Moreen, 16, a Senior Student at the school to severe physical punishment by the over allegations of theft.

The victim, Nagasha sustained serious injuries and is now unable to sit. She is currently receiving treatment at Diisi Medical Clinic in Bwizibwera, Mbarara District.

Police preliminary reports show that the victim has denied any involvement in theft, insisting that the accusations against her are false.

However, the school headteacher, Kabagambe says that Nagasha was beaten by fellow students who accused her of stealing their belongings. His statement has raised further concerns regarding the level of discipline enforcement and supervision within the school.

The Buhweju District Police Commander, DPC SP Timothy Ndahura, confirmed reports of Nagasha’s brutal assault stating that they (police) have started on investigations sorrounding this incident.

“We are committed to ensuring justice is served. All individuals found responsible will face the law,” SP Ndahura stated.

The case has sparked outrage among parents who are calling for strict measures against corporal punishment in schools.

The victim’s father, Leonidas Byabasheija, has appealed to government authorities for urgent intervention. He claims his daughter was brutally punished and is in critical condition. Byabasheija has called for justice, urging authorities to take action against those responsible for her suffering.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing policies that protect students from abuse and ensure safe learning environments.
