UPDF soldiers on Wednesday raided Lubowa police station in Wakiso, disarmed officers, brutalized and detained over 10 civilians who had visited the station to report cases.
It is alleged that the confrontation started when a soldier at the rank of Lieutenant identified as Samson Amo went to the station to lodge a complaint about a suspicious vehicle parked near the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) estate in Lubowa, and suddenly a group of soldiers attacked the police officers, threatening to shoot everyone before disarming them.
Both police officers and civilians at the staion were brutally assaulted. The civilians had gone to report crimes and others had gone to visit their people detained at the police station.
The soldiers fled the scene with the guns immediately after the altercation. ASP Innocent Sunday, station OC and some police officers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to various medical facilities for medication.
Although the motive behind this invasion remain unclear, police says they are investigating the incident, and that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to book.
Five police officers namely ASP Sunday Innocent, D/IP Kisa Claire, Sgt Kahabo,D/Sgt Njose and D/C Tubwita were physically assaulted and their phones forcefully confiscated by the soldiers.
Kajjansi division police under the Kampala Metropolitan South confirmed the incident and clarified that the soldiers belong to the Special Forces Command (SFC).
