About 50 Ugandans will be awarded different medals for their contributions towards national development , on Heroes Day.
Hajat Zaminah Malole serves as the Secretary to the Presidential Awards Committee, said the 50 nominees include 41 males and 9 females who contributed to Uganda’s liberation struggle and national development.
She highlighted the categories of medals to be awarded as the Civilian medals, military medals and police service medals. Zamina noted the medalists will be awarded and decorated on Heroes Day, while those who passed away will be decorated posthumously.
“We can’t add a value on these medals because I don’t know how much you can pay these people to satisfy their efforts,” Zamina stressed, explaining reasons they can’t give money instead of medals
“This is a national honor and it’s beyond giving someone money. ”
The National Heroes Day is celebrated annually on June 9. This year’s 36th Heroes Day will be celebrated in Lyantonde Technical Institute, Kaliro Town Council, in Lyantonde district under the theme; “The legacy and Ideals of our heroes a memorable inspiration” President Museveni is expected to be the chief guest .
Speaking to journalists ahead of the celebrations, the minister for the presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda explained the reason of celebrating heroes day from Lyantonde District. “From recruits to supporters, “Lyantonde’s people were the backbone of the resistance” said Milly.
“Commemorating the Heroes day is vital for both national identity and cultural heritage. National Heroes deserves a significant observance, allowing citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before them,” she said.
She rallied Ugandans to join the President in celebrating this day.
It’s a good idea.
For sure one should get a medal however most people don’t know the value of a medal.
Uganda has been liberated until of recent when konyi and LRA were actively disturbing Uganda.
Some of us we worked hard to see that we have peace.
How do they select those who are to be awarded.
