Resilient, outspoken political Activist and opposition figure, Ingrid Turinawe has disclosed commitment to honoring the party and it’s leadership, regarding the selection of flag bearers in the 2026 elections .

Ingrid Turinawe arriving at PFF headquarters on Katonga road to pick expression forms amid chants from her supporters.

“We believe in our party, we trust our leaders, and we believe in our constitution. We will follow all the processes and procedures,” Turinawe noted.

She made the remarks on Monday after picking expression of interest forms to contest for Rukungiri Municipality MP seat in the upcoming 2026 elections, on People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) ticket.

She was flanked by her husband, family and PFF supporters from Rukungiri and religious leaders to pick expression forms. She acknowledged the current logistical and structural limitations facing PFF but expressed readiness to abide by the party’s decisions regarding the selection process.

“We are aware of the procedures. We know there’s limited time and no formal structures to handle elections at the moment, but we are ready to agree with whatever decision our leaders take,” she said.

On Monday, Turinawe officially declared her intention to contest for the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament seat. Speaking to journalists shortly after picking expression of interest forms at the PFF Katonga offices, Turinawe said her decision follows overwhelming public support.

“We came to express our interest. The people of Rukungiri Municipality have taken a decision that I am their voice because they are voiceless,” she said.

Turinawe emphasized that she has served the community informally for years, and residents are now demanding she formalize that role.

“I’ve been working and supporting them without an office. Now, they’ve decided I need to get one. That’s why we are here.”

Who’s Ingrid Turinawe?

Born on November 23, 1973, in Kanungu,  Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe is a Ugandan female activist, widely known for her boldness, grassroots mobilization skills, and unyielding stance on democratic governance and justice

She rose to prominence as a senior leader in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), where she served in several capacities, including as Chairperson of the Women’s League and as a key strategist. Turinawe became a symbol of defiance and female strength in Ugandan politics, often confronting police brutality and government repression head-on during protests and campaigns.

Her political style is marked by courage, consistency, and a populist appeal, particularly among rural communities who see her as a voice for the voiceless. Even outside formal office, she has remained active, serving communities, advocating for social justice, and inspiring women’s political participation.

Though controversial in some circles due to her confrontational methods, she is undeniably a determined fighter for opposition causes, and her influence continues to shape Uganda’s political discourse-especially in opposition strongholds like Rukungiri.
