KABALE
A suspected cattle thief identified only as Zimulinda, a Rwandan national and resident of Kihanga village in Rwene parish, Buhara sub-county, was killed in a mob justice incident on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
According to territorial police reports, the violent incident occurred at approximately 12:50 PM when residents of Kihanga village allegedly took the law into their own hands. The Officer in Charge (OC) of Rwene received information about the attack and upon arriving at the scene, found Zimulinda’s body engulfed in flames. Witness accounts linked him to previous cattle thefts in the area.
The Kabale district police team promptly visited the site, documented the scene, and retrieved the remains. The body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination to aid ongoing investigations.
Police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing. He urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report criminal suspects to the appropriate authorities.
“This kind of vigilantism only undermines the justice system,” Maate warned. “We are committed to ensuring that perpetrators face prosecution according to the law.”
