The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has launched a nationwide mobilisation drive to collect signatures in support of its party president, Hon. Jimmy Akena, who is seeking nomination to contest for the presidency in the 2026 general elections.
Addressing journalists at Uganda House in Kampala, UPC spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach announced that forms had been picked for Akena’s presidential candidature, and called on party leaders, members, and supporters across the country to actively participate in the signature collection process.
“At this stage, our priority is rallying every UPC member and supporter to sign in support of Hon. Jimmy Akena’s candidature. Forms are available at our party headquarters and offices across the country,” Arach said.
She further disclosed that the party’s Kitgum office had been relocated to Uhuru Drive, East Ward “B”, opposite Cast Hotel in Pandwong Division, Kitgum Municipal Council, to ease access for members in the district who want to add their signatures.
Arach stressed that gathering the required signatures was a crucial step toward securing Akena’s place on the 2026 presidential ballot. “We urge members not to relax but to take part in this mobilisation. Every signature counts in this journey,” she noted.
Additionally, Arach also confirmed that UPC had completed its primaries for both parliamentary and local government candidates, and appealed to members who lost to remain engaged in party activities and support those who emerged as flag bearers in the upcoming national elections.
