Former Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasoozi has pledged to tackle Kampala’s pressing challenges, including poor roads, solid waste management, corruption, as well as gaps in health and education – if elected Lord Mayor.
“I am aware of the responsibilities that come with serving our city, and I am ready to work tirelessly to build a Kampala city that is safe, clean, prosperous and inclusive for every resident,” Kasozi said after he was unveiled as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flagbearer for the Kampala City Lord Mayor race.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday, Kasoozi accused the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) of prioritizing foreign contractors, a practice he argued slows down service delivery, especially in infrastructure development. He proposed that at least 60% of contracts should be awarded to local firms, noting that Ugandan companies are capable of handling major projects.
He also outlined plans to transform solid waste into an economic resource, seal potholes across the city to address the challenge of traffic congestion, and introduce tough measures to curb corruption at City Hall.
“I am not entering this race to advance a single agenda, but to partner with different communities, civil society, faith groups, women, youth, markets and businesses, listen to them, and agree on building a city together. We are not great talkers, but we have actions,” he added, rallying residents to back his candidacy.
He revealed plans to officially launch his campaign programs in the next few weeks.
Kasoozi will face stiff competition from National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Eng. Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga, incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago of the People’s Front for Transition (PFT), Beatrice Mao of the Democratic Party (DP), Mahad Kaweesa of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and several independents.
