KAMPALA
The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has confirmed that its flag bearer, Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has been cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) for presidential nomination in the 2026 general elections.
ANT’s acting National Coordinator, Hon. Alice Alaso, said Muntu will appear before the EC for nomination today (September 24), but didn’t give details of the nomination time.
“The exact time to be communicated by the Commission,” said Alaso.
“The Alliance for National Transformation is delighted to inform the public and our supporters that our Presidential Candidate, Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has officially been cleared by the Electoral Commission for nomination.”

She revealed the party’s commitment to “delivering the change Uganda can trust”
The development comes days after the EC raised queries about ANT’s submission, saying the party had not gathered enough signatures to back Muntu’s presidential bid.
Presidential nominations began on Tuesday, (September 23), and only three candidates were successfully nominated: They are incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Joseph Elton Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP), and Robert Kasibante of the National Peasant’s Party (NPP).
Gen. Muntu joins a line-up of other candidates expected to appear before the Commission today, including Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Nathan Nandala Mafabi and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine.
The nomination exercise is being conducted at the new EC headquarters in Lweza Kigo, Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso district.
