KAMPALA

Under the bold banner “Our Time, Our Voice, Our Future,” Democratic Party (DP) candidate Namirembe Blessious has emerged as one of the most promising young leaders in Uganda’s 2026 race for Parliament. Contesting for Western Youth Member of Parliament, Namirembe represents a new generation of leaders determined to turn the tide of youth unemployment, inequality, and political exclusion across the region.

Uganda must expand renewable energy access for a sustainable future

At 28, she speaks with the conviction of someone who has seen both the promise and the pain of Uganda’s young population. According to the 2024 census, youth make up more than three-quarters of the nation’s population, yet many still struggle with limited access to jobs, education, and meaningful representation.

“We are the energy, creativity, and strength of our nation,” she says. “But for too long, our voices have been reduced to statistics. It’s time to bridge the gap between promise and progress.”

A Vision for a Self-Reliant Generation

Namirembe’s campaign rests on a clear vision: to build a vibrant, self-reliant, and empowered youth generation that leads innovation, drives community change, and secures opportunities for themselves and future generations.

Her manifesto, inspired by the 2025 National Youth Agenda, outlines a practical, action-driven plan built around six core pillars: skills and education, jobs and entrepreneurship, health and wellness, digital transformation, the green economy, and youth leadership.

Among her key proposals are the creation of District Youth Skills Centres, the establishment of a Western Youth Innovation Fund, and the introduction of youth-friendly health corners in every sub-county. She also pledges to push for affordable internet access and digital hubs across rural towns, equipping young people with the tools to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

“I’m not here to make empty promises,” Namirembe insists. “I’m here to build systems that empower us — where every young person, from Kasese to Kabale, has a fair chance to dream and achieve.”

Rooted in Experience and Community

Born and raised in Keshunga, Nyabushozi County, Kiruhura District, Namirembe Blessious has lived the realities she now seeks to transform. A proud product of Katete Primary School, Kashaka Girls Secondary School, and Immaculate Heart Girls Rukungiri, she later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Biology and Physical) from Makerere University.

Her academic path reflects her lifelong belief in discipline, mentorship, and balance, qualities she carried into her work as a teacher and sports coach at Greenhill Academy, St. Kizito SS Bugolobi, and St. Joseph’s Girls Nsambya.

Outside the classroom, Namirembe is the CEO of Ujuzi Initiative Uganda, a youth-led NGO focusing on skills development, critical thinking, and mindset change. Through Ujuzi, she has championed both girl and boy child empowerment, nurturing the next wave of leaders through mentorship and practical training.

She is also an alumna of the Leadership Institute of Uganda and the Uganda Democracy Academy under the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), holding a certificate from the Leadership Institute of Uganda, showcasing her multifaceted expertise and dedication to adding value to her community. These credentials that ground her political aspirations in both theory and practice.

“Leadership is not about age; it’s about service,” she often tells youth groups. “It’s about ensuring that the next generation doesn’t inherit our struggles but our strength.”

A Record of Courage and Trailblazing

Namirembe is no stranger to breaking barriers. At Makerere University, she made headlines as the only female aspirant in the 88th Guild Presidential race, defying stereotypes and encouraging more young women to step into leadership spaces.

She has also completed a patriotism and leadership course with the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) at the Institute of Security and Intelligence Studies (ISIS), a testament to her commitment to national service and civic responsibility. She is a gymnastics and swimming coach with a certificate from gymnastics Association of Uganda.

Beyond politics, Namirembe is an accomplished gymnastics and swimming coach, certified by the Gymnastics Association of Uganda. Her dedication to sports, health, and mentorship reflects a holistic approach to leadership one that values both physical and intellectual empowerment.

The Democratic Party Factor

For Namirembe, running on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket is both symbolic and strategic. The party’s long-standing values of justice, truth, and service align with her call for transparency, equal opportunity, and youth inclusion.

“DP represents the kind of leadership young people are yearning for honest, principled, and people-centered,” she says. “It’s not about politics of division, but politics of purpose.”

Her campaign seeks to mobilize thousands of first-time voters across Western Uganda, from the hills of Kabale to the plains of Hoima uniting them under one call: our time is now.

A Call to Action

As Uganda edges closer to the 2026 elections, Namirembe’s message resonates with urgency. She pledges to hold quarterly youth forums, push for youth representation in budget planning, and advocate for transparency in government programs.

“Fellow youth, this is our moment,” she declares in her closing rally message. “We have the numbers, the power, and the dreams to transform Western Uganda. Let’s build a generation that works, innovates, and leads with compassion and courage.”

With her blend of grassroots activism, academic rigor, and youthful energy, Namirembe Blessious stands as a new face of hope, not only for Western Uganda but for an entire generation seeking to reclaim its voice and its future.
