Several teachers and UNEB officials have been arrested for allegedly engaging in over examination malpractice during the ongoing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), in the Greater Masaka Region.

SP Twaaha Kasirye, the Regional Police Spokesperson, says the cases were recorded in Masaka, Kyotera, Rakai, and Masaka City on November 3, 2025, the first day of the examinations.

In Masaka District, eight teachers of St. Kizito Butenzi Primary School were arrested for allegedly helping candidates during the Social Studies paper. The suspects were identified as Ngobya Jackson, Kavuma Ashiraf, Juuko Misaaki, Kyusa Ronald, Mubiru Isma, Ssempijja Michael, Turyasingura Adam, and Waiswa Sharif.

“They were caught red-handed writing answers and coaching pupils on how to approach the examination. Evidence was recovered at the scene,” Kasirye said.

In Rakai District, police arrested a man identified as Katende Noah for impersonation. Katende allegedly presented himself as a UNEB scout without any official recognition or accreditation.

In Masaka City’s Kimanya–Kabonera Division, police are hunting for Mr. Asiimwe Robert, who reportedly attempted to bribe a UNEB monitor in an effort to influence the examination process.

Elsewhere in Kyotera District, six UNEB officials were arrested at Kyotera Central Primary School after a candidate was found with a small piece of paper containing Social Studies answers during an impromptu inspection.

The suspects include Mulindwa Sulait, Nansango Sylvia, Nasamula Annet, Ssekitoleko Gonzaga, Nakityo Harriet, and Lubega John. All are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Kasirye warned that police will not tolerate acts that compromise the credibility of national examinations.

“The Uganda Police, working with UNEB, remains committed to upholding the integrity of national examinations,” he said. “We caution all stakeholders to desist from any acts that undermine this process.”
