Peter Mpaka Ayamba, who recently defected from the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) to join the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has openly disagreed with pastors who cite the biblical precedent of Saul and David ruling for forty years.
Mpaka argued that such references should not be interpreted as a fixed limit for leadership, suggesting instead that President Yoweri Museveni could continue leading Uganda for much longer.
Mpaka urged religious leaders to broaden their biblical perspective, pointing to the Book of Judges (3:14–30), where Ehud, a left-handed Israelite from the tribe of Benjamin, delivered Israel from the Moabite King Eglon and went on to rule for eighty years.
According to scripture, Ehud crafted a concealed double-edged sword, assassinated King Eglon, rallied the Israelites, and led them to victory over 10,000 Moabites, ushering in eight decades of peace.
“David and Saul may have ruled for forty years, but that is not a cap, nor does it apply to all nations,” Mpaka said. He emphasized that Uganda could experience a similar extended period of stability under Museveni’s leadership, provided peace continues to prevail.
Mpaka praised Museveni’s stewardship of Uganda, describing him as a leader who has loved and safeguarded the “Pearl of Africa,” a country blessed with abundant natural resources. He called on Ugandans to actively participate in the forthcoming elections and to entrust Museveni with their votes if they wish to maintain peace and stability.
