BUSHENYI
Police in Bushenyi District have arrested electoral commission (EC) officials over abandoned electoral materials recovered from Kizinda Town Council hall.
The greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa said the materials were recovered following a tip-off from candidates contesting for the Igara West County parliamentary seat.
Tayebwa said police swiftly responded to the information and recovered assorted election materials believed to have been left behind after the presidential and parliamentary general elections held on January 15, 2026.
“Upon receiving the information, we immediately responded and recovered election materials, including a yet-to-be-established number of suspected ticked ballot papers, declaration forms and seals,” Tayebwa said without indulging into details.
He added that police secured and managed the scene in line with standard operating procedures before commencing investigations.
“We have so far arrested the concerned electoral commission authorities to guide our general inquiries,” he said.
Tayebwa said investigations are ongoing and police will keep the public informed as new developments emerge.
He urged anyone with information related to the matter to confidentially share it with police and called on all affected parties to refrain from acts of incitement as investigations continue.
