The selection of Senior One students for the 2026 academic year has commenced at UMA Show Grounds, Lugogo, with hundreds of secondary school head teachers from across the country participating in the two-day exercise.
The exercise follows the release of the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, during which the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, announced that the placement process would take place on February 12 and 13, 2026.
The selection is being conducted using a computerized automated system aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency in the placement of candidates into various secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
More than 500,000 candidates who passed the 2025 PLE are expected to be placed in over 2,500 secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the country, including 1,422 government-aided schools.
According to results released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), 91,990 candidates passed in Division One, 388,293 in Division Two, 165,226 in Division Three, while 84,724 passed in Division Four.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has scheduled the first term for the 2026 Senior One cohort to begin on March 2, 2026.
