KAMPALA
Management of Mulago National Referral Hospital has dismissed media reports indicating that Kalangala District Woman MP, Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, died at the facility, describing the information as misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday, the hospital clarified that Nakimuli died at Alexandro Medical Center, where she had undergone a surgical procedure, before her body was transferred to Mulago mortuary for a postmortem examination.
“The Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala did not pass on at Mulago National Referral Hospital as alluded to by the NTV Uganda and Daily Monitor,” hospital management said. “She died at Alexandro Medical Center where she had gone for surgery and was later brought to Mulago mortuary.”
The clarification follows publications by sections of the media houses, suggesting that the legislator had died at Mulago.
Nakimuli, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) died on Sunday, according to the announcement by the party president Robert Kyagulanyi. She died following an unsuccessful surgery.
Nakimuli, 41, had been serving her first term in Parliament and was awaiting swearing-in for a second term after winning re-election in the January 15 general elections.
She last appeared in Parliament on April 15, 2026, where she criticised the Government’s report on Hoima City Stadium.
Popularly known as “Mama Kalangala,” Nakimuli was recognised for her advocacy on women’s empowerment and development issues affecting fishing communities in the Ssese Islands.
By press time, details regarding the cause of her death remained scant, pending the outcome of a postmortem examination. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and Parliament.
