Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital, Mbarara, fell to hosts Kinyamasika Major Seminary in a day of spirited football and volleyball matches held in Fort Portal on Saturday.
The friendly games, part of the hospital’s corporate engagement program, were led by the Hospital Dr. Stephen Businge the hospital CEO, Robert Tumusiime Administrator and Karugaba James, Director of Nursing during a grand entry into the seminary grounds.
Seminarians took the day with 3-1 victory over their visitors, where Kinyamasika Major Semininary took an early lead when Okello Steven found the net for the first goal. Aliguma JohnMary and Ssemogerere JohnPaul added to the tally, sealing a 3-1 victory for the hosts.
The lone goal for Holy Innocents was scored by team captain Emmanuel Abonga, who plays as a laboratory technician at the hospital.
Despite the loss, the mood remained upbeat. “Football is not about winning, it’s about enjoyment,” said Seminarian Hilary Tebusweke, former sports manager at Kinyamasika, who spoke on behalf of the current sports manager. He commended both teams for their discipline on the pitch.
Abonga accepted the result, noting it was a fair game. While he raised concerns about some calls by the center referee, he added, “all in all, we will wait to challenge them when they visit us in Mbarara.”
Hosts also dominated in volleyball, Kinyamasika won three rounds while Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital took one.
The matches highlighted camaraderie and sportsmanship between the two institutions, with leaders from Holy Innocents emphasizing the value of community building beyond hospital wards.
