Hon Jovah Kamateeka, WMP Mitooma district addressing the task force during the handover of COVID-19 relief food.

As the rains wet the grounds, MP Jovah Kamateeka has urged Mitooma district farmers to take advantage of the seasons to grow more food crops as a mean of ensuring food security in their district.

Kamateeka was speaking to people during the handover of coronavirus food relief today at the district Headquarters.

“The rains are here, I want to implore all of you to start planting more crops so as they can sell off the harvests to get money soon after the pandemic,” she urged.

Kamateeka donated relief food worth 12tonnes of classic maize flour as part of the 20Shs received from theParliament to support MPs in the Anti Covid-19 campaign in their respective districts. She also donated Shs 3.4million to help in fueling task forces motor vehicles and allowances as they perform their duties.

Furthermore, Mp Kamateeka cleared the air on the food which government is donating to people in Kampala, Wakiso and other parts of the country saying the donations are meant for only the vulnerable poor.

“Next, I want to clarify to Ugandans that the food which government is donating is meant for the vulnerable persons. Government doesn’t have too much money to cater for all of us, the little that is there is therefore shared with those who may be vulnerably in need,” she clarified.

The legislator was quick to say that she would give an accountability of the how the Shs20million money was spent to the district task force and the clerk to Parliament having noted the presidential directives on the Shs 10bn which Parliament apportioned to Mps.

Last night, while giving an address on corona virus updates, President Museveni was quoted saying that MPs are not government purchasing officers therefore ineligible to use the 20million for personal purchases. He further ordered for the immediate audit of the MPs who have already used the money.

However, Mp Kamateeka said the President’s comment came at a time when she had already used the money vowing to keep transparency by giving photocopies of the accountability to the task force and the Clerk to Parliament.

“By the time President Museveni addressed the nation on COVID-19 updates yesterday, I had already purchased the posho. If I had not, then it wouldn’t be here today. However, I shall give an accountability and receipts of payments to the task force and clerk to the parliament.” MP Kamateeka explained.
