English Premiere league and North London’s Arsenal have stormed have made a historical return to the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League final after a 1:0 score against Atletical Madrid.
The late Saka’s strike edged the Gunners past their Spanish opponents 2-1 on aggregate in a tense semi-final clash at the Emirates Stadium.
The breakthrough came on Tuesday night when Bukayo Saka struck the decisive goal, sealing Arsenal’s progression following a fiercely contested two-legged encounter.
The first leg in Spain had ended 1-1 amid controversy, with Viktor Gyökeres and Julián Álvarez both converting penalties before another spot-kick awarded to the Gunners was dramatically overturned.
Back in London, Arsenal held their nerve in front of a charged home crowd, with Saka’s winner proving enough to send Mikel Arteta’s side into their first Champions League final in years.
Attention now shifts to Wednesday’s second semi-final, where defending champions Paris Saint-Germain face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. The two European heavyweights head into the clash following a thrilling first-leg draw in Paris.
The winner of that tie will meet Arsenal in the final scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the 67,215-seater Puskás Arena in Budapest, Hungary. Kick-off is set for 5pm BST (6pm local time).
Paris Saint-Germain head into the decisive clash as reigning champions, having secured their maiden title last season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in Munich.
Historically, Arsenal last played the UEFA champions league final in 2006, against Barcelona at Stede de France, but lost to Barcelona 2:1, despite taking the lead through Sol Campbell. For over 22 years, Arsenal have not won any big trophy, the English Premiere League (since 2004), and have no any UEFA Champions League trophies. The team under the coachship of Mikel Arteta is now leading the EPL 2025/26 Table with 76pts ahead of Man City. There are hopes that the club could see a double breakthrough winning both trophies this season.
