Aponye was involved in a nasty road accident in Itojo, Ntungamo district southwest Uganda on Thursday 6th July, 2023, evening time.
He was rushed to Itojo hospital, Ntungamo where he was pronounced dead moments later.
Aponye is a Ugandan businessman turned politicians with a string of ventures such as supermarkets, restaurants, logistic and supply transit trucks, malls, food processing factories to mention but afew.
His was put on the spot in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic when he reportedly through his company, Aponye Uganda Limited supplied poor quality and rotten food products like posho and beans, expired powdered milk which government was distributing to over 1.5million vulnerable urban population in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono affected by the lockdown.
Aponye’s supply contract was terminated after officials from the Office of the Prime Minister discovered that the food consignments he had supplied were of poor quality.
“When they tested some of those consignments especially beans which were in big volume which would have served for the period of Easter were found not fit for consumption by UNBS,” said Betty Amongi, the then Minister of Kampala.
