Chairman NRM Women League’s supporters arrested in unlawful parade.

Police in Mbale City have arrested three persons for allegedly staging  unlawful celebrations amid ululations to welcome new Mbale city. Local Media reported.

Reports by local media have it that the arrested persons are supporters of Lydia Wanyoto Matende, the Chairman NRM Women League also hopeful WMP Mbale district in the forthcoming 2020/21 scientific elections.

The suspects identified by only one name are; Siraje, Pius, and another unidentified man, all Team leaders in the Wanyoto political camp.

These were seen donned in yellow T-shirts with political messages: “Lydia Wanyoto Matende- Male Woman MP aspirant” travelling on a vehicle carrying public address systems while others walked in a procession around Mbale town something that would likely result into spread of COVID-19. This outrageously compelled police to use reasonable force to dispatch them.

They however claimed they were holding a peaceful march meant to welcome Mbale city.

“All that we wanted was to peacefully hold a drive in town so as to celebrate Mbale city status while observing corona virus directives,” they ezecused upon arrest.

By the time of publication, the suspects were still detained at Mbale Central Police station.

Our reporters could not talk to Hon Lydia Wanyoto to ascertain the info since her known contact was off.

Mbale is one of the seven municipalities which were upgrading into a city status today. Others include; Mbarara, Fort Portal, Arua, Gulu, Masaka and Jinja. The main celebrations for Mbale city shall be held tomorrow Thursday 2nd June,2020 at Mbale Municipal Council Mayor’s gardens.
