Church of Uganda Archbishop Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu is risking appearing to court after a section of christians from Luweero diocese have threatened to take legal actions against the church province administration accusing them of mishandling the election of 4th diocesan bishop.
In a letter addressed to the Archbishop, seven christians have filed a notice of intention to sue the CoU province administration on similar accusations.
The christians demand that the Archbishop stays the resolutions of the House of Bishops that revoked the election of Rev Can Godfrey Kasana as 4th bishop of Luweero Diocese on allegations of infidelity on June 28.
One of the signatories to the letter, David Lule Mutyaba from at St Peters Church of Uganda Bukalasa says the House of Bishops during did not take into consideration several factors before taking a decision to nullify the election of Rev. Canon Kasana.
It should be recalled that Rev Can. Kasana was supposed to be installed the bishop of Luweero diocese last Sunday (July 9) but this did not happen as the House of Bishops had earlier on June 28 denounced him after reports of alleged adultery contrary to the church’s canonical laws.
On July 9, Archbishop Kaziimba assumed the pastoral responsibility of the Diocese of Luweero after the abdication ceremony by the retiring bishop Eridard Nsubuga.
Last week, Archbishop Kaziimba while in Madi cautioned politicians in Luweero against interfering with the decision taken by the church leadership.
