The Chief Justice of Uganda Alophonse Owinyi Dollo cautioned Ugandans against fueling corruption by tempting court workers with bribes.
Dollo made the remarks on Monday while addressing court workers and heads of districts who have received legal services under Rukungiri Chief magistrates court in districts of Rukungiri, Kanungu and Ntungamu.
The Chief Justice confirmed to Public that as the judiciary they are facing a challenge of Ugandans who have decided to fuel up corruption in courts by tempting court workers with bribes stating that the judiciary is doing its best to fight this act.
“We have noticed that we still have some few members of judiciary that are still being tempted by court users with bribes but again those are the few because we have over 98% of our workers who are free from corruption and I therefore caution the court users to seek free and fair justice,” Owinyi said.
The Chief Justice added that the judiciary is aiming at increasing the facilities and magistrates to ensure that no cases exceeds 12 months without judgment.
Rukungiri district probation officer, Tumusimire Jeniffer appealed to the Chief Justice to help them construct a juvenile home because it is on demand in the district.
“Chief Justice, allow me inform you that in Rukungiri we don’t have a juvenile remand home yet it is demanding, I therefore appeal to you to help us construct that home because it is now the challenge that we are facing,” Tumusimire elaborated.
The Rukungiri Chief Magistrate, Her worship Mbabazi Mary Edith applauded the Chief Justice for assessing the performance of Rukungiri Magistrate court and interacting with the court users and the workers.
