Kawempe North Member of parliament, Hon. Muhammad Segirinya has died, doctors from Rubaga Hospital announced.
According to the statement released by the hospital, the late Segirinya died at 12:10pm.
“Despite all efforts to ensure his recovery, he passed away today, Thursday 9th January 2025”, the statement read in part.
Ssegirinya, a member of the National Unity platform has been battling strange illness from the time he was released from prison on alleged and charges of murder, terrorism, and attempted murder together with the Makindye West MP , Hon. Allan Ssewanyana, emanating from the 2021 spare of killings in Masaka, popularly known as Bijjambiya attacks.
The hospital management shared their condolences to the speaker of parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Kawempe North constituency and Uganda’s for losing what they described as a dedicated servant of people – Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences on behalf of the hospital, to the Parliament of Uganda, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Hon Members of the Parliament, his family and the people of Kawempe North whom he represented with passion and commitment,” Rubaga Hospital eulogized.
The announcement brings to rest what has been circulating on social media about Ssegirinya’s death. News about his death started circulating early on Thursday with various Media Houses and personalities making statements about his demise.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament is said his organs were shutting. NUP leader said that the late was brain dead. Lukwago castigated government for not doing enough to save late member of parliament.
Ssegirinya has barely been in Parliament. He has spent in court and hospital. He was remanded to Kitalya prison on four counts, three of murder and one of attempted murder in September, 2021 – after being summoned by police to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department on 3rd, September, 2021 – for his alleged involvement in rebel activities in the greater Masaka district.
Ssegirinya holds a Diploma in Journalism from Data mine Technical and Business Institute. He was born in 1988 in Butale, Masaka district. In their statement, Rubaga Hospital described Ssegirinya as a “dedicated servant of the people.”
Eulogies have begun flowing from leaders across the aisle for the late Segirinya.
