Democratic Party has asked people of Rwenzururu Kingdom to welcome their King, Omusinga Imerangoma Charles Wesley Mumbere back in the kingdom and forgive anybody they suspect was behind his arrest.
Acting DP spokesperson and President of UYD, Ismail Kiirya said on Tuesday that the occasion for the return of King Mumbere should be used for healing, reconciliation and unity among the people.
“Let’s forgive each other in order to continue with the kingdom, issues like finger pointing, discrimination etc of those they suspect to be behind the omusinga arrest will just disorganize us the more than unifying us. Let’s forget what happened,” he said.

Omusinga will be making his maiden visit to his Kingdom tomorrow (Wednesday 4th October, 2024) 7 years after the military attacked his palace, killed dozens including the King’s Royal Guards and arrested the King and over 200 subjects in 2016 after General Elections.
He was charged with treason, murder and aggravated robbery together with his subjects and detained at Luzira Prison until August, 2023 when government through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP Jane Frances Abodo dropped the charges. This was after the accused person applied amnesty.
Earlier this day, ICT minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi told journalists at Uganda Media Centre that Omusinga is free to return to his Kingdom because issues that led to her arrest were sorted out by the central government and the kingdom.
Baryomunsi further warned the subjects against breaching the laws while the jubilate and welcome the King in their areas.
