KAMPALA
The Electoral Commission (EC) has ordered fresh elections in 14 villages in Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono and Iganga districts following alleged irregularities in the July local council elections.
In a letter dated August 12 and addressed to candidates and district returning officers in the affected areas, EC chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama said the commission had failed to ascertain and publish the results from the affected villages in accordance with the law.
“Pursuant to Article 61(1)(d) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, the Electoral Commission, in exercising its mandate of ascertaining the results arising from the above Administrative Unit election, established that the results of the said village election could not be ascertained and published in accordance with the law,” Byabakama said.
Wakiso District has eight affected villages, while Kampala has four. Mukono and Iganga have one village each.
The affected areas in Wakiso are Ssenge Village in Naluvule, Lukwanga Village in Abayita Ababiri, Kasero Kirimamboga Tomi in Buloba, Bulamu Deputy Zone in Kasangati, Kabuuma in Busabala, Luteete A in Kasangati and Buwambo in Nansana Municipality.
In Kampala, fresh elections will be held in Soweto Village in Wandegeya, Kasaato Zone in Kisenyi II Central Division, Sempa Zone in Makindye Division and Mugalu Zone in Kawempe II.
Makenke Zone in Mukono Municipality and Busei B in Nakalama Sub-county, Iganga District, are also affected.

“Accordingly, the Commission, under MIN/COM/012/2026 and MIN/COM/014/2026, hereby informs you that a repeat of this election will be conducted on a date to be communicated in due course,” he said.
EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the commission was continuing to handle complaints and petitions arising from the local council elections.
“The Commission continues to make decisions on complaints and petitions that were brought to it arising out of local council elections,” Mucunguzi said.
