The Independent Electoral Commission of Uganda has revealed that the 2025/26 general election exercise is likely to cost the commission a tune of over 1.38 trillion shillings
The revelation was made by the commission’s secretary general Leonard Mulekwah at the launch of the 2025/26 election roadmap on Wednesday August 2, at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
According to the released roadmap, verification of academic papers for presidential, parliamentary, and local government leaders will be held between 3rd July 2025 and 1st August 2025.
Between 3rd January and 24th January, 2025, the commission shall be compiling youth, persons with disabilities, older person workers, Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and professional bodies voters’ register.
Public servants intending to contest in the 2025/26 general election have been given between 2nd August and 13th June 2025 to resign from their offices.
Mulekwah explained that the commission will update voters’ registers in each parish 3rd to 24th January, 2025 and nomination of candidates at both national and local government levels has been scheduled for between 14th July 2025 and 12th December 2025.
“We expect the nomination of candidates for president to take place between 2nd October and 3rd October 2025. This is in line with the Presidential Elections Act,” he said.
The roadmap also provided for between 12th January and 9th February 2026, the polling dates for presidential, parliamentary, and local government councils.
