Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Electoral Commission Boss, Hon. Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda has warned candidates vying for various positions in the forthcoming FDC NEC elections to desist from campaigns tainted with abusive language likely to cause sectional feelings.
“There should be no mudslinging, use of abusive language and use of money. Its just a family affair, we want to complete it the way we started it,” said Toterebuka.
Campaign exercise to elect new leaders in FDC kicked off today, Monday 25th September, 2023 and will close on October 4.
Speaking during a media engagement at Najjanankumbi on Monday, Toterebuka also said abusive, intemperate, slanderous or base language or innuendoes designed or likely to provoke violent reactions or emotions shall not be employed or used in political campaigns.
According to the party Electoral regulatory body, election of new leader will take place on October 6, during the party National Delegates Conference at UMA Show Grounds Lugogo. And successful candidates will take over party leadership with immediate effect until the end of 2028.
At least 79 candidates were duly last week nominated to contest for 24 NEC positions. Of these, 34 are unopposed. They are; Hon. Jack Sabiiti who replaced Amb. Wasswa Birigwa as National Chairman, Nathan Nandala Mafabi seeking for a re-election as Secretary General. Others include three deputy presidents; Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi (Buganda), Kaps Fungaro (Northern) and Wokuri Madanda Margaret (Eastern) while western region position is still pending verification, among others. Over 20 positions are still vacant.
The unopposed candidates are according to Bamwenda waiting on confirmation and taking oaths of allegiance at the National Delegation Conference on October 6.
