The Katonga breakaway faction of the Forum for Democratic Change has on Tuesday 27th August, 2024 , formally commenced processes to register a new political party.
Named the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a group of the faction leaders submitted the name for registration to the Electoral Commission. They were led by Ingrid Turinawe, a former national mobilizer and member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who broke away from the party along with 12 other promoters. The PFF’s submission comes on the heels of the alleged dissolution of the FDC party by Ambassador Birigwa on August 26, 2024, pursuant to the resolution of the national delegates conference of August 19 at Katonga.
The new party’s slogan is “Freedom for All and All for Freedom,” and its symbol is a phone. Royal blue and white have been chosen as the party’s official colors.
According to the PFF promoters, the party will now await approval from the Electoral Commission before embarking on a nationwide collection of signatures to formalize the party’s registration.
This development marks a significant shift in Uganda’s political landscape, as the PFF seeks to establish itself as a major player in the country’s political arena.
The Electoral Commission is expected to review the PFF’s submission and verify the party’s compliance with the relevant regulations before granting approval. Once registered, the PFF will be eligible to participate in future elections and nominate candidates for political offices.
