Police in Kyegegwa district have arrested a female butcher for allegedly breaking into a farmer’s fence and stole one of his goats which she slaughtered with intentions to sell the meat.
The suspect is Bakebelamu Teopista, a resident of Kasambya village, Kyegegwa Town Council in Kyegegwa district. She was arrested on Thursday April 16.
Police said the arrest followed report by the victim which prompted an immediate search using investigators and their K9 sniffer dog “Bruno”
“Bruno picked up a human scent and tracked it for approximately one kilometre, leading officers directly to the residence of the suspect,” Police reported.
The suspect slaughtered the goat at about 10 metres from the residence.
Police said the woman operates a butcher, and it is suspected she intended to sell the meat.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested, and the skin of the stolen goat, identified by the complainant, was recovered as evidence,” Police said.
Investigations have commenced, and exhibits including fresh meat and a goat skin have been recovered.
