MITYANA
Unknownfire sources have flamed a commercial building in Mityana municipality, destroying merchandise worth millions of money.
The fire according to eyewitnesses started at around 3am on Friday morning. The building accommodated businesses like book shops, stationeries, veterinary shops, photo studio labs among others.
It is alleged that the fire outbreak was sparked by electricity.“
The building majorly had stationery and veterinary shops but all have been gutted. We managed to put out the fire but failed because even the neighbors could not cooperate with us as we lacked water,” eyewitness reported.
According reports, residents failed to extinguish fire from spreading to other areas. They accuse the police of failing to run to their rescue.
“Police said their firefighting vehicle has a mechanical problem and the only alternative was to call for one from Kampala. Even the one from Kampala by the time it arrived, the whole building roof had collapsed in,” said one of the residents.
By press time, no official report had been issued out by police on the cause of the fire.
