Government has declined calls by the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) for peace talks with ADF rebels terrorizing Rwenzori and Eastern areas of DRC.
On Wednesday, Parrots Media published a story in which the UPC spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat advised government to enter into peace talks with the rebels one way of restoring peace in Rwenzori. This was after ADF rebels attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School and killed 37 students, five locals and abducted six more students last week.
At a media brief, Arach proposed that government considers the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere to mediate between the two groups.
However, government says there is nothing to talk about with the rebels regarding last week’s attack.
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the minister of Information and National Guidance said unlike other rebel groups with whom the government has negotiated peace, the ADF is a terror outfit backed by the internationally sanctioned Islamic state terror group.
He noted that government in conjuction with the Congolese forces is all efforts to combat terrorism and all terror acts in the country revealing that the situation is now calm in Kasese.
