“The hero of this election is the IEBC led by Chebukati. They amazed all of us. With the results in the public portal, the servers were open and all that you needed was a calculator,” President-Elect William Samoei Ruto
The newly elected Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto has described the electiral chairperson of the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission as the hero of the 2022, Kenya elections.
Ever since the campaigns in Kenya started and through out the electoral process, the IEBC has been credited by the observers all over Africa for conducting a free and fair electoral process where all the human rights were observed.
In his victory speech minutes after he was announced as the newly elected Kenyan President, William Ruto credited the IEBC for raising the political bar up and also named it as the hero of the 2022 Kenya’s elections.
“I say this without conviction that IEBC is the hero of this election led by one Wafula Chebukati. IEBC has amazed us all during these elections with its transparency,” Ruto said.
“Ever since the IEBC started uploading results on its website, all the camps that were in the race of President had confidence in the IEBC and every camp was referring to the website of the IEBC and to the Ruto camp they used to say to their supporters that “get a simple calculator and you will get the winner”
“I was amazed with the IEBC with the results on the public portal, all servers were open and you just needed to get a simple calculator to get the winner and so I credit IEBC for that because it was a game changer,” Ruto added.
Furthermore, IEBC chairman Chebukati said that the process was smooth he however noted afew chaotic incidences revealing that about three of his commissioners were beaten and arrested by the army.
This he noted did not persuade them to give up because they had a constitutional job to fulfill.
Chebukati under the IEBC announced William Ruto as the newly elected president of Kenya with 7,176,141 votes that make a percentage of 50.49% winning Laila Odinga who scooped 6,942,930 votes making a percentage of 48.95%.
The declaration ceremony was conducted at the national tally centre in Bomas of Kenya.
