Kisoro District
The local police are hunting for suspects who allegedly raped and strangled a 60-year-old peasant by the name of Chimanaizanye Tereza to death. The incident took place on September 3, 2023, in Rubona village, Bubuye parish, Nyundo sub-county, Kisoro district.
According to reports, the victim was last seen at a local bar in the village on the night of September 3rd as reported by Didas Ndagijimaana. She was later discovered dead the following morning at her residence.
Upon investigation, the police discovered that Tereza was first raped before being strangled to death.
The report of murder was registered, a case file was opened, and the scene was visited and documented. A post-mortem was conducted at the scene, and Tereza was later allowed to be buried as confirmed by ASP Elly Mate the police spokesperson for Kigezi Sub-Region.
The local police are still conducting their inquiries and searching for any leads that can help identify and apprehend any suspects involved in this heinous crime.
This incident sheds light on the ongoing issue of violence against women in Uganda, and it is hoped that those responsible for this crime will be brought to justice.
