“The IGP with deep sorrow regrets to announce the sudden demise of the deputy Inspector General of Police , Maj General Paul Lokech. He passed on from his home this morning,” Police announced.

As the country waits for the official statement concerning the cause of his death, IGP Martin Okoth Ochola has directed the Director of Police Health Services Dr. Moses Byaruhanga to establish the cause of Lokech’s death.

“With deep sorrow I regret to announce the sudden death of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Paul Lokech. I have tasked the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Moses Byaruhanga to carry out postmortem to establish the cause of death,” he said.

Known as the Lion Of Mogadishu, Gen Lokech has been the deputy IGP, he passed on Saturday morning at his home after spending few weeks without appearing from the public.

“The IGP with deep sorrow regrets to announce the sudden demise of the deputy Inspector General of Police , Maj General Paul Lokech. He passed on from his home this morning,” Police announced.

He was the man in charge of the investigation into the attempted assassination on Gen Edward Katumba Wamala’s life.

Reports of the cause of Lokech’s sudden death have started to circulate with many of them claiming he succumbed to a blood clot, but neither police nor the bereaved have confirmed to the reports.

Police said they will issue out official communication on the cause of Maj Gen Lokech’s death and funeral arrangements.

Hundreds mourn Lokech’s sudden death.

“The loss of Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech, a truly gallant son of Uganda is incredibly devastating. What a sad day while we are still mourning Lt. Gen. Pecos Kutesa. My deepest condolences to the family, UPDF, UPF and the nation at large.” Milly Babalanda, minister for presidency.

To the families of Gen. Paul Lokech and Gen. Pecos Kutesa, I send my deepest sympathies in the time your loss! They were the bravest of the brave!
