The judiciary spokesperson Jamson Karemani has dismissed with contempt reports by the media that Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi-Dollo is ill.
“While it is true that the Hon. Chief Justice is out of the country receiving medical attention, it is not true that he is critically ill or ill at all,” Karemani said.
The judiciary however did not disclose details of the CJ’s treatment but reliable sources indicate that he is being hospitalized in Germany.
In a statement released on Thursday (June 22), Karemani dispelled reports as incorrect, unfounded and exaggerated information stating that the Chief Justice will be returning soon to resume his works of serving Ugandans.
CJ Owinyi-Dollo last public appearance was on May 11 during the commissioning of Mukono High Court.
Reports about his unhealthy conditions started speculating after he missed special court session to honour of slain supreme court justice Stella Arach Amoko on Monday.
He was represented by the Deputy chief justice, Richard Buteera who told mourners that the Owinyi-Dollo has been on treatment out of the country for the last three weeks.
“Its painful that I will not witness my sister (Arach) being lowered to her final resting place because I am out of the country, for three weeks now receiving treatment,” read part of the CJ’s speech read by justice Buteera.
Lady Justice Stella Arach Amoko funeral was supposed to be held today in Adjumani district however, it was postponed after wrangled aroused between her children and the relatives off the deceased.
The children contend that Arach had will to be buried at Jukia Hill in Nebbi town contrary to initial plans to bury her in Adjumani, the home of her husband’s ancestral home, Ambassador James Amoko.
The judiciary chief registrar Sarah Langa Siu said that the remains of the deceased would be interred at a later date to be communicated and it is still being kept at A-Plus funeral services home.
