Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has suspended on-street parking along Kampala and Jinja Roads from the Entebbe Road junction to Yusuf Lule/Jinja Road (Kitgum House). The move aims to ease congestion, improve safety, and boost mobility in the Central Business District (CBD).
Motorists are advised to use alternative parking along Station Road, Dewinton Road, Said Barre, Nkrumah Road, within premises they visit, or in commercial off-street lots at National Theatre, Uganda House, and the Multi-Storey car park on Portal Avenue.
Drivers are urged to cooperate with enforcement officers. The change is part of wider reforms by KCCA to reorganize the city’s transport sector, including formalising taxi and boda boda operations through gazetted stages and parks. Roadside stages are being eliminated to improve traffic flow, although some operators have raised concerns that the measures may restrict their access to Kampala.
KCCA has also begun testing electric buses on selected routes, with full deployment expected by the end of May after route trials and stakeholder consultations.
Officials said the testing phase allows them to address feedback from passengers and transport operators before full rollout.
The authority stressed that these reforms are aimed at creating a safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly transport system, in line with its goal of a livable Kampala.
