Lwengo District Local Government chairperson Ibrahim Kitatta Almalik is at loggerheads with the Local Government minister Raphael Magezi over alleged corruption of the district service commission leaders.

In a local leaders meeting with the minister, RDC Hudu Hussein and area MPs on Friday, the meeting turned fruitless after minister Magezi and the LCV boss failed go reach an agreement on actions against the commission.

Lwengo DSC has been on spotlights for several times over alleged incompetence and soliciting bribes from job applicants which has caused divisions between members of the commission and the district council

Despite efforts by ministry of public service and local government ministry officials to have matters resolved, the district chairperson insists that the commission get disbanded.

During a meeting on Friday, minister Magezi advised that the commission should not be disbanded but rather be interdicted to allow investigations into their alleged misconduct.

“The issue of the district service commission should be handled carefully following the reports I have got from Public Service Commission and those of the district,” Magyezi told a district council

The ministers suggestion was not welcomed by chairman Kitatta who threatened to oppose the excesses of members of the commission.

“Members of the Service Commission should stop extorting money from job applicants, if they go ahead with that, I will continue pushing for their disbandment,” he argued.

Yusuf Babumba, the DSC chairperson has always refuted the allegations brought against the commission saying the district chairperson is bent on tarnishing the image of the commission.

Speaking to journalists soon after the meeting, minister Magezi said that the escalating bickering among political leaders in the area has stiffed service delivery.

He said the people of Lwengo need good roads, and clean water among other services and this will only be achieved when all leaders are working together.

The minister condemned the vice by local leaders to character assassinate one another in the media which he says tarnished the image of the district.
