A lecturer and one student at Kyambogo have been confirmed dead after they allegedly contracted corona virus.
The student who has been identified as Doreen Mirembe Juliet was on Saturday announced dead at Victoria hospital on social media alleging that she succumbed to the deadly COVID-19.
The demise comes at a time when the University witnessed a shocking spike in COVID-19 infections amongst the students in the last two weeks.
The university had however not made any deceased student was in her second academic year pursuing a Bachelor’s of Teacher Education (BTE) before she breathed her last.
Her death becomes a second case at the university following a recent demise of the lecture.
On June 4th, the university administration issued a statement announcing the loss of Ms. Sharon Atwine, a staff memberand Nursery Teacher at the Department of Psychology whose postmortem results indicated she had died of COVID-19.
Earlier on, the University Management followed advice from a team of health experts led by Dr. Monica Musenero (Senior Presidential Adviser on Epidemics and Pandemic) to close the institution for at least 10 days.The campus is being closed for a fortnight to combat the virus’s spread.
